Beckon

Privacy policy

Beckon is built so it hardly needs to know anything. Here's exactly what it keeps, what it never sees, and how long anything is held.

Last updated 27 October 2026

The short version

  • Guests don't sign up, and guest pages set no cookies and run no tracking.
  • A message a guest sends by text or WhatsApp goes from their phone straight to the salon. Beckon never sees it.
  • A request sent to the front desk screen is held only until the salon deals with it, and never more than 10 hours. After that only anonymous counts remain, like "12 flat whites on Tuesday".
  • For salons, Beckon keeps what's needed to run the account: contact details, the menu and settings you enter, and your billing reference from Stripe. We never see full card numbers.
  • We don't sell or share personal information for advertising. Ever.

Who we are

Beckon is a guest request service for hair salons, run by Stevee Devonda, a sole trader in New Zealand trading as Beckon. In this policy "Beckon", "we" and "us" mean Stevee Devonda trading as Beckon.

Questions or requests about your information: email hello@beckon.co.nz.

If you're a guest at a salon

You reach Beckon by scanning the code at your chair. You don't create an account and we don't ask who you are beyond a first name, so the salon knows who's asking.

Sending by text or WhatsApp. Your phone opens a message that's already written. When you press send, it goes from your phone to the salon's number like any other text. Beckon never receives it, never sees your number, and keeps nothing about it.

Sending to the front desk. Some salons have requests pop up on a screen at their front desk instead. Then we hold:

That's deleted as soon as the salon marks your request done or can't do, or 10 hours after you sent it, whichever comes first. For two hours after that we keep only whether it was done, so your page can show it, with no name or note attached. We also add one to anonymous daily counts for that salon (how many requests, which drinks, how quickly they were answered). Those counts never include names or anything you typed, and are kept for about 13 months.

Stopping floods. To stop one phone from sending dozens of requests, we count requests by internet address and a scrambled code made from your first name. That count is deleted after 10 minutes, and the scrambled code can't be turned back into your name.

No cookies, no tracking. The guest page sets no cookies, stores nothing on your phone, runs no analytics, and carries no advertising.

The salon. Each salon decides what's on its menu and what happens with your request once it arrives. If you have a question about how a salon uses what you asked for, ask them.

If you run a salon on Beckon

To run your account we keep:

WhatWhy
Your name and email, and those of anyone you invite to help manage the salonTo sign you in by email link and to send set-up and account emails
Your salon's name, address on Beckon, website, logo, colours, menu, opening hours, guest Wi-Fi details and front desk mobileTo build and show your guest page. The Wi-Fi details and menu are shown to your guests, on purpose
Your front desk PINTo let your desk screen sign in. We only keep a scrambled version and can't read it back
Your Stripe customer and subscription references, your plan, and whether it's paid upTo know which plan you're on and to pause your page if a payment fails
Anonymous daily request counts for your salonTo show you how guests use Beckon

Payments. Card details are entered on Stripe's own secure page and kept by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers. Stripe's privacy policy covers what they hold: stripe.com/nz/privacy.

Cookies. When you sign in to your salon's admin or your front desk screen, we set one cookie to keep you signed in for up to 30 days. It's only used for that, and only on your salon's own address.

Website lookup. If you ask Beckon to read your website during set-up, we fetch that public page once to suggest your name, logo, colours and hours. We don't keep a copy of the page.

Your rights

If your salon is in Australia, the Australian Privacy Principles apply to how we handle your information, and the rights below are yours too. Under New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email hello@beckon.co.nz and we'll reply within 20 working days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

If something goes wrong

If there's a privacy breach that's likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell the people affected and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the change matters to salons, we'll email account owners before it takes effect.
